Lew was born on May 7th, 1938 in Warren, MN to Andrew & Madeline (Wosick) Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church and graduated from Stephen High School in 1956. Lew spent his junior year of high school as a student at the Northwest School of Agriculture, known as the AC, in Crookston. He enlisted in the US Navy on July 16, 1956 and served on the USSC Franklin D. Roosevelt. His duties included working the flight deck, getting jets into the air and assisting them in landing safely. Following his honorable discharge on September 12, 1960 he worked for a few years in Minneapolis. Lew was united in marriage to Marlene Faye Prozinski of Anoka, MN on July 6, 1963. After moving to Crookston in 1967 Lew was employed at Elk River Concrete. He later farmed for several years near Middle River, MN. In 1990 he began working for Transit Tech of St. Cloud, MN, delivering new buses from New Flyer in Crookston and Pembina, ND to cities throughout the United States. He loved to travel the US and Canada. Over 8 years, the couple welcomed 5 children into their home and taught them independence and to always follow their dreams.  He was a man of a few words but each child and grandchild knew with the look of his gentle grin how much they were loved.
Lew was accomplished at woodworking and loved to hunt and fish in his younger days.  Over the past 13 years he and Marlene loved to travel to Weslaco, Texas, where they spent their winters enjoying the company of friends and Lew playing cards.  When winter was over he couldn’t wait to get back to Moorhead, MN, where he and Marlene made their home for the past 3 years, and to see his children, grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, Cayson Pinsonneault of Wahpeton, ND, and Ava Conway and Gigi Hidilago, of California.  Lew was an active parishioner of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston from 1965 until moving to Moorhead, where he attended St Joseph’s Catholic Church.  Lew was an active member of Crookston American Legion Post 20, a member and past president of the 40 & 8, and the Sportsman Gun Club, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. Vegetable gardening was a lifelong passion that he was able to keep doing until the present time. May God bless the memory of Lew Hanson.
