Help students start school with the supplies they need.  Please drop off supplies at Back-to-School Registration Day on Thursday, August 19; at Meet-the-Teacher Nights on September 1 and September 2 from 4:00 to 7:30 pm, or at Highland School before classes start on Tuesday, September 7.  Collection boxes will be available just inside the main entry doors. Court Bishop Schenk #2010 Catholic Daughters are doing their annual Back-to-School Supply Project for children and youth attending all Crookston schools. Items suggested are backpacks, white binders, packs of loose-leaf paper, crayons, pencils, pens, markers, glue, kleenex, etc. Items can be dropped off at Cathedral Church in Crookston; St Peter’s Church in Gentilly, or St Mary’s Church in Euclid by August 11th in the specially marked boxes. Registration for the Summer Arts Safari Theater presentation “Frozen” will be Monday, August 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Highland School.  Children in third through ninth grade can register. The cost is $25 and T-shirts are included. Practices will be Monday through Friday August 16-20 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m..  Participants should bring their own lunch and a water bottle.  Performances will be Friday, August 20 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland School Auditorium. Adults 13 and older are $5, children 6 to 12 are $3, children under 5 are free. There will be no Sunday church services at First English Church in Eldred on August 8 and 15.

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Crookston will only have the 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning worship service on August 8 and 16. There will be no Wednesday night worship services at 7:00 p.m. on August 11 and 18 and no 7:00 a.m. Bible Study at R.B.J.’s on Wednesday, August 11 and 18.

Little Miss and Junior Miss tickets are on sale at Montague’s Flower Shop. Advance tickets are $4 for adults, $2 for students and children 5 and under are free. Tickets at the door will be $5 for adults, $3 for students. The event will take place Tuesday, August 17, at 5:00 p.m. at The Crookston High School

The Crookston Girls Pirate Hockey will have a Corn and Brat Feed Fundraiser on Thursday, August 20, from 10:30-2:00 pm at B & E Meats. Free will offering. All proceeds benefit Crookston Girls Pirate Hockey. Sponsored by B & E Meats and John Seaver.

The Crookston Ox Cart Days will be putting on a cookout August 17th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Hugo’s Family Market Place. The always fun Supermarket Sweep groceries race will take place right after.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston is offering an evening of food, music, and fellowship on Wednesday, August 18, in the church parking lot.  Food for purchase will start at 5:00 p.m. Professional musicians will add to the gathering at 6:00 p.m. Bring a portable chair for an enjoyable evening.

Bob Blazek, Paul Henre, Oscar Meyer, and Greg Newhouse will be honored at this year’s Veterans’ Recognition Ceremony during Ox Cart Days on Wednesday August 18, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. The event will take place at the UMN Crookston UTOC Arena

UMC & NWROC will honor 35 retirees at the University of Minnesota Crookston on Wednesday August 18th. The event will take place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Lot J on the campus. A light brunch will be served, to RSVP contact Michelle Christopherson at mchristo@crk.umn.edu.

The Northwest School of Agriculture Alumni Association welcomes alumni back to the University of Minnesota Crookston campus Thursday, August 19, 2021, for their annual reunion. The 2021 NWSA Reunion Schedule is as follows. 10:00 a.m. – Open Mic Morning (session for all athletes and cheerleaders) at the Wellness Center. 10:30 a.m. – Registration and Refreshments at Northern Lights Lounge, Sargeant Student Center. 11:30 a.m. – Top Aggie Luncheon and Annual Meeting at the Bede Ballroom, Sergeant Student Center. 1:30 p.m. – Class Meetings and Photos – Rooms are assigned. 3:30 p.m. – Happy Hour Special – Includes hors d’oeuvres, complimentary beer/wine/refreshments, and music from the 50s and 60s featuring the band, Kenny and the Classics at the Peterson Gazebo, Campus Mall

The 17th Annual Crookston Blue Line Club Golf Scramble will be Friday, August 20. It’s a five-person scramble at Minakwa Golf Course with registration at 8:00 a.m. and shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Team sponsorship is $350, an individual entry is $70. Crookston Ox Cart Days will be having a community S’mores Event Friday August 20th in downtown Crookston. The event is sponsored by CHEDA.

The Crookston Classic Cruisers will have their “Run To The Inn” rain or shine on August 20th and 21st. The event will take place at the Crookston Inn, and Cobblestone Inn.

Wesley United Methodist Church will have their Ox Cart Days Finale Wood Fired Pizza on Sunday, August 22 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Lost River Band will perform. Bring your lawn chair. Beverages will be served by Northstar 4-H.

The Crookston City Council will meet Monday, August 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

Kem Temple’s 75th Annual Shrine Circus will be September 10, 11, and 12 at the Grand Forks Ralph Englestad Arena.  Showtimes are 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Friday, 11:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.  on Sunday. Tickets are available at the door.

The Crookston Public Library has partnered with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to offer free access to the state’s parks and recreation areas. The Minnesota State Parks Library Program offers community members the opportunity to visit any state park or recreation area in Minnesota without paying an entrance fee. The pass provides access to parks around the state for seven days and is now available at the Crookston Public Library, with two passes available per week. Passes may be reserved up to seven days in advance by calling the library at 218-281-4522. The Crookston Public Library is located at 110 North Ash Street. 

The Crookston Public Library’s Books & Brews Book Club meet the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Drafts Sports Bar and Grill. They will discuss books and enjoy beverages. Appetizers are provided by the Friends of the Crookston Public Library; participants are responsible for the cost of their own food and drinks. All are welcome. 

Twig and Branch Collection will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside.  Branches must be cut in four-foot lengths and bundled for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away.  Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule a pickup. Please note that leaves, grass, and other compostable material must be in the clear City of Crookston bags and will be collected on your regular garbage collection day.

In partnership with the United Way of Crookston, Crookston Public Schools will be offering free grab-and-go summer meals for all children from Highland Elementary School this summer. The program will run every Monday-Thursday from June 7 – July 29. Meals will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm.

Explore Tales and Trails summer Library Experience takes place at the Crookston Library through July 31. Read to win great prizes and attend outdoor events. This program is for everyone ages 0-18. Visit the Crookston Library to pick up a reading log or sign up to participate virtually on your mobile device by downloading the Beanstack app or visiting larl.org/explore. 

The Golden Link is serving noon lunch Monday through Friday and Thursday evening dinner. The cost is $6 and available to the public. Veterans meals are half price on the first Monday of the month. Call 281-3072 by 10:00 the day you plan to have lunch. 

The Golden Link has an all you can eat salad bar for $3.00 the rest of the summer Monday through Friday.

The Crookston Friends of the Library meet on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

The Crookston Library Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:15. 

The Cove Youth Center in Crookston is open Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Students and parents should call ahead to check the availability of the youth center at 218-470-0149. 

Polk County Public Health is available to answer questions about COVID 19 and help obtain essential services such as groceries, medications, and other daily items at 281-3385.  The phone is staffed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
