Crookston Parks and Recreation has registration open for Jr. and Sr. legion baseball for players born from January 1 of 2003 to 2009. The first practice will be held at Karn Field on Saturday, May 21, at 10:00 a.m.

The Crookston Early Childhood Family Education will be joining the Washington Elementary School’s End of Year Picnic on Tuesday, May 17, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Washington School Playground. This event offers great food and family fun. Please register for the event ahead of time. In the event of rain, activities will be held inside the Crookston Sports Center.

The UMC Teambacker Golf Classic presented by Altru will take place on Friday, June 17 at Minakwa Golf Course in Crookston. They are currently taking donations of products, services, gift certificates, or experience. The Crookston Public Schools is holding a School Readiness Survey to reserve spots for children in a School Readiness classroom at Washington Elementary School for the fall of 2022 based on availability. The Crookston Public Schools request that students and families complete the Survey by Friday, May 20, online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/3T969WH or by completing a paper survey and mailing it to Washington School or emailing it to Lori Morgan at lorimorgan@isd593.org. No one will be denied participation due to an inability to pay, and transportation is available for all students within city limits. Eat United Summer Food Service is back at the park for summer 2022! Crookston Public Schools, in partnership with the United Way of Crookston, will be offering free summer meals to all children ages 0-18 at Ray Ecklund Park Complex this summer! The program will run Monday-Thursday from June 6 – July 28. Meals will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please note that pre-pandemic guidelines will be enforced, including that children must be present to receive a meal, one meal per child, and meals must be consumed on-site. There is NO grab and go option for the summer of 2022.

Cathedral Church in Crookston will have a Community Meal on Wednesday, June 8, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Cathedral Church Dining Room. This meal is free, and everyone is welcome to come.  They will continue the Community Meals every month on the second Wednesday of the month.

RiverView Health is offering a CPR class on Thursday, June 9, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the RiverView Home Care Building, 721 South Minnesota Street in Crookston. Cost is $50 for those needing certification, and for those not needing certification the class is free. The University of Minnesota Extension will be offering Youth Tractor and Farm Safety Certification at the Polk County Fairgrounds for youth’s ages 14 and older on Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11. Cost to take the course is $40 per student and includes all materials and meals on training days. The United Valley Bank of Crookston is taking donations for the Darrin Bekkedahl Benefit Account to help him pay for his intensive care bills for COVID-19. Donations can be dropped off or mailed to the United Valley Bank in Crookston under Darrin Bekkedahl Benefit Account at P.O. Box 619. Twig and Branch Collection will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, running from May through October. Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut in four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away. Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule a pickup.

Second booster doses of Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are now available at Altru Clinic in Crookston for people 50 and older and those 12 and older who are immunocompromised. The second booster dose must be administered at least four months after the first booster. Adults who received Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) for their primary vaccine and booster dose at least four months ago may now receive a second booster dose of Pfizer or Moderna only. The Crookston Public Library’s Books & Brews Book Club meet the fourth Tuesday of every other month at 6:30 p.m. at Drafts Sports Bar and Grill. They will discuss books and enjoy beverages.
