The Golden Link Senior Center will have Men’s Cards today, at 8:00 a.m. with Cribbage at 10:00 a.m.

The Crookston School District will have “Meet the Teacher” Nights at the Washington Elementary School, Highland Elementary School, and Crookston High School tonight, and tomorrow, September 1, from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. Come and meet the teachers of the school to have your questions answered and walk the halls of the schools where the students will have to traverse on the first day of school.

The Washington Elementary School will have a Kick-Off Event called Big Wheels Night for Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), School Readiness, and Kindergarten families during the Elementary School’s “Meet the Teacher” night tonight, and tomorrow, September 1, from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m., where they’ll get to see and explore big and important vehicles and equipment that work around the community.

The Crookston First Responder Academy is holding an Informational Open House tonight at the North Fire Station about a 10-Week Introduction Program to EMS and Firefighter Skills for High School Junior and Seniors from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The program will be a 10-week program that will begin in October. The Highland School Supply Drive which helps students start school with the supplies they need is accepting donations. Please drop off supplies at Meet-the-Teacher Nights tonight, and tomorrow, September 1, at Highland Elementary School before classes start on Tuesday, September 6. Collection boxes will be available just inside the main entry doors. Examples of supplies needed: dry erase markers, glue, pencils, highlighters, rulers, scissors, markers, crayons, post-it notes, index cards, folders, notebooks (wide-ruled), binders, filler paper, hand sanitizer, Kleenex and Ziplock bags.  If preferred, monetary donations can be sent to: Highland PTO – 801 Central Ave N – Crookston, MN. The Ernotte Hiller Red River Valley will host its annual Labor Day Golf Tournament on Sunday, September 4, and Monday, September 5, with a Qualifying Round on Saturday, September 3 at the Minakwa Golf Course. There will also be a Skins game during the qualifying round on Saturday, costing $10 to play, and Calcutta after the tournament on Saturday. The Entry Fee for Regular Flights is $64 and a Championship Flight is $90. The fee includes Brunch and Burgers on Sunday, and Lunch on Monday. All Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL) branches and LINK sites will be closed on Monday, September 5 in observance of Labor Day, with operation resuming Tuesday, September 6. This includes the Ada, Bagley, Climax, Crookston, Fertile, Fosston, Mahnomen, McIntosh, and Moorhead Public Libraries.

The Benedictine Living Community in Crookston is holding a Golf Glow Ball Tournament Fundraiser on Saturday, September 10, at the Minakwa Golf Course. Registration is from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. with the Shotgun Start of the first nine holes at 4:00 p.m. Supper will be served along with raffle drawings, and awards. The Red Lake County Committee on Aging invites all Red Lake County senior citizens (55 years and older) to their annual Fall Picnic. The picnic lunch will be held at the Oklee Hall on Tuesday, September 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There is no charge. Youth must attend a mandatory orientation session that happens on Sunday, October 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Crookston Splash Pad at the Ray Ecklund Complex is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. through Labor Day.

The Crookston High School is opening its Weight Room for all High School students to use this summer. The Room will be open Monday through Friday for 9th-12th grade students from 6:00 to 7:15 a.m. or 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. and Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for 7th and 8th-grade students from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Twig and Branch Collection will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, running from May through October. Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away. Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule a pickup.

Second booster doses of Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are now available at Altru Clinic in Crookston for people 50 and older and those 12 and older who are immunocompromised. The second booster dose must be administered at least four months after the first booster. Adults who received Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) for their primary vaccine and booster dose at least four months ago may now receive a second booster dose of Pfizer or Moderna only. The Crookston Public Library’s Books & Brews Book Club meet on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at 6:30 p.m. at Drafts Sports Bar and Grill. They will discuss books and enjoy beverages. Appetizers are provided by the Friends of the Crookston Public Library; participants are responsible for the cost of their own food and drinks. All are welcome.
