DGF REBELS USE 12-0 RUN AT END OF FIRST HALF TO SPARK 59-48 WIN OVER PIRATES GIRL’S BASKETBALL

The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels Girl’s Basketball team ended the first half on a 12-0 run, and the Crookston Pirates were cold shooting the basketball early in a 59-48 Rebels win from Glyndon on Tuesday night in a Section 8AA matchup.

FIRST HALF –
The first half started slow with both teams playing solid defense. In the first four minutes of the game Halle Winjum was able to snag four steals to limit the Rebels offense and keep Crookston in front 6-3. Neither team was able to build much of a lead early, and the two teams ended up trading the lead several times before the Rebels would use their size and shooting to go on a little run to take an 18-13 lead and force a Pirates timeout with 5:01 remaining in the half. Libby Salentine would make a layup right off of the timeout, but it would be the only points the Pirates would score in the final five minutes of the half. The game and momentum would completely swing in favor of the Rebels as they would go on a 12-0 run to end the half and take a 30-15 lead into the halftime break. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton was able to use a 2-3 zone defense and their size to frustrate Crookston and the Pirates were unable to knock down outside shots hitting just one three-pointer in the first half. Halle Winjum led the way for Crookston scoring 9 first-half points, and the Rebels were extremely balanced having seven different players contribute scoring to build the big lead.

SECOND HALF –
The Pirates came out and were able to trim the deficit after a three from Isabelle Smith, but the Rebels would respond with a three of their own, and after two free throws from Libby Salentine, Crookston found themselves still down 37-24 with 12:04 left in the game. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton was able to knock down a few more outside shots, and extend the lead to 43-24. Without a shot clock in place, the Rebels were able to bleed the clock and shorten the game drastically. After the teams traded a few buckets, it was the Rebels in front 49-29. Crookston was able to spark a run with a couple of scores from Halle Winjum and a three from Isabelle Smith, and that pulled them all the way within single digits trailing 50-41 with 3:33 remaining. The Rebels would make their free throws, and after a couple more scores from Crookston, the Pirates would finally get a turnover and Halle Winjum would splash a three to make it 54-48 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton with 1:12 left to play. That would be as close as the game would get down the stretch, as the Rebels would make their free throws, and Crookston was unable to score the rest of the game, giving Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton a 59-48 Section 8AA victory.

Crookston falls to 12-8 on the year and will be back in action on Saturday when they host Grafton (N.D.). Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton moves to 9-11 with the win.
