#4 Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis beats Park Rapids and Roseau

The #4 ranked Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team wrapped up the regular season by beating Park Rapids 7-0 and Roseau 6-1 in two Section 8A matches at the Crookston triangular at the Crookston High School Tennis courts.

CROOKSTON VS PARK RAPIDS –
The Crookston Pirates started the day with a 7-0 victory over the Park Rapids Panthers. The score was 7-0, but the match was much closer than the score indicated as Crookston’s Ava Martin picked up a three-set victory in third singles. Martin lost the first set 7-5 before she battled back to win the second set 6-4. In the third set, she won 10-5 to earn the come-from-behind victory. The Pirates’ Ashlyn Bailey won a good battle at first singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Paige Abrahamson played second singles, and she won the first set 6-3 before winning a back-and-forth battle in the second set with a 7-5 victory.
Crookston’s second doubles team of Georgia Sanders and Logan Brekken won a hard-fought match by winning the first set 7-6 and 7-1 in the tie-breaker. They pulled away in the second set for a 6-3 victory.
The third doubles team of Chloe Boll and Emma LaPlante won a competitive match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. The only two matches that weren’t close were fourth singles, where Emelia Hoerner won 6-1, 6-1, and the first doubles team of Kaylie Clauson and Addie Fee won 6-3, 6-0. “All the girls played so well to start the day,” said Pirate Coach Gina Gunderson. “The girls played so well and competed hard in the match. Park Rapids played well, and our girls showed how mentally tough they are by finishing each match strong.”

CROOKSTON VS ROSEAU –
In the final match of the day, Crookston finished strong with a 6-1 victory over the Roseau Rams. The Pirates might have taken advantage of Roseau celebrating homecoming and their homecoming dance on Friday night. Crookston was looking to finish the regular season strong, and they did. At first singles, the last match was completed, Crookston’s Addie Fee won a marathon match 6-2, 6-4. Ashlyn Bailey dominated the second singles match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Crookston’s Paige Abrahamson dominated the third singles match 6-1, 6-2. At fourth singles, Emelia Hoerner came up with another shutout as she coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 victory to sweep the singles matches.
Roseau won the first doubles match in three sets. Roseau lost the first set 6-1, but bounced back to win the second set 5-3 and also won the third set 10-6 for their only win in the match.
At second doubles, Ava Martin and Logan Brekken coasted to a 6-0, 6-2 and the third doubles team of Chloe Boll and Emma LaPlante cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory to wrap up the regular season with a 6-1 victory.

Crookston wraps up the season with a 16-4 record and will play in the Section 8A Girls Tennis quarter-finals on Thursday, October 10 at Courts Plus in Fargo, North Dakota. Crookston will either be the second or third seed in the tournament as Perham will be the top seed. Crookston and Thief River Falls will be the second and third seed and it could go either way on who gets which seed. The seeding meeting will be in Mahnomen on Friday, October 4.
