The Crookston Eagle’s Auxiliary would like to invite you to our annual FREE kid’s Christmas Party on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm. Come to Whoville, where there will be games and arts and crafts, and get your picture taken with Santa and the Grinch. With the help of the kids from The Cove and FFA, we will serve chicken strips and mini corn dog baskets for $5. Proceeds and any free will donations will go to The Cove and FFA.

Community Christmas Food Baskets

The Community Christmas Food Basket Committee is offering a Hugo’s Gift Card to purchase food items. Now through December 10, individuals and families can call 218-289-9039 between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to register for a gift card. Only 1 Hugo’s Gift Card per family and address will be given. Gift cards will be mailed out before Christmas.

Garden Valley Technologies – Customer Appreciation Day

Garden Valley Technologies will hold its Annual Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday, December 7th, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Garden Valley’s Erskine Headquarters. Join them for a festive celebration with holiday shopping, exciting prizes, lunch, and product and service displays.

The Summit – Holiday Open House

The Summit is having a Holiday Open House on Wednesday, December 11, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Join us at the Summit Entrance for this festive celebration. There will be tours, refreshments, treats, and activities. We look forward to seeing you there.

Sign-up for Toys for Tots

The City of Crookston has a sign-up sheet in City Hall for recipients of Toys for Tots. Names will be taken through Thursday, December 19th. Recipients must be 14 years of age or younger, and recipients must live in city limits.  All presents will be wrapped and delivered the morning of Tuesday, December 24th (Christmas Eve) between 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. Donations are also accepted. To donate, stop by City Hall or mail your donation to Crookston Water Department at 124 North Broadway, Crookston, MN 56716.

The next CHEDA Board meeting will be Thursday, December 12th at 7:00 a.m. Valley Technology Park.

RiverView CPR Classes

RiverView Health will offer a CPR class on Thursday, December 12, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the RiverView Home Care Building, 721 South Minnesota Street in Crookston. The cost is $55 for those needing certification, and for those not needing certification, the class is free. To register, call 218-281-9536. No walk-ins will be allowed.

Grand Theatre’s Annual Free Santa and a Movie

Bring the whole family to the Grand Theatre’s Annual Free Santa and a Movie on Saturday, December 14 at noon. Watch The Grinch Cartoon, see Santa and prizes will be given away.

Crookston Public Library – Holiday-Themed Program

The Crookston Public Library invites youth ages 5-10 and their caregivers to a holiday-themed program. Scheduled for Saturday, December 14, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., the program will include a crafting event and a holiday-themed Storytime. The library is located at 110 N. Ash St. All programs are offered free of charge.

The Crookston Public Library will hold a Holiday Craft and Storytime for K-5th graders, ages 5 through 10, on Saturday, December 14, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. During this special storytime, you can Create and decorate your own paper Christmas tree and make an ornament while listening to holiday stories.

Wesley United Methodist Church – Blue Christmas

Wesley United Methodist Church will hold its Blue Christmas Service on Sunday, December 15, at 6:00 p.m.  If you are suffering the loss of a loved one, money worries, anxiety, loneliness, or difficult family relationships, join us in our service of remembrance and reflection.  All are welcome.  Call 218-281-3393 with any questions.

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Schedule

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will stop in 20 Minnesota towns on its annual ride through Minnesota, bringing live entertainment and Christmas cheer in exchange for donations to local food banks. Depending on the day, visitors can enjoy free musical performances by The Lone Bellow and Tiera Kennedy or Seaforth and Alana Springsteen. Any food or cash donations will also benefit the local community. The following are the local stops:

12/15 Plummer at Central Avenue (6:15 p.m.)
12/15 Thief River Falls at 405 3 Street East (7:45 p.m.)

Fertile Public Library – Resolute Readers Book Club

The Fertile Public Library’s Resolute Readers Book Club will meet this month to discuss The Orphan of Salt Winds by Elizabeth Brooks. A gothic, psychological mystery and atmospheric coming-of-age story, The Orphan of Salt Winds is the portrait of a woman haunted by the place she calls home. The group will meet on Wednesday, December 18, at 4 p.m. at the Fertile Public Library, located at 101 Mill St. S. All are welcome.

Hockey Alumni Scrimmages 2024

The Hockey Alumni Scrimmages 2024 will be held on Monday, December 23 at the Crookston Sports Center. Game 1 starts at 4:00 p.m. for all years, odd versus even. Game 2 starts at 5:30 p.m. for Pirate Girls versus Girls Alumni. Game 3 starts at 7:00 p.m. for Pirate Boys versus Pirate Alumni. Every Tuesday (except for Federal Holidays), The Crookston Public Library will host New Born Baby Talk from 9:30 am. to 11:00 a.m. This is for parents with babies 0-12 weeks old. A public health nurse, parent educator, and lactation specialist will be available to answer questions about your newborn and provide support and information on your new journey of parenting.
