UMC VOLLEYBALL SWEPT AT #8 ST. CLOUD STATE

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Golden Eagles Women’s Volleyball team suffered their fourth sweep in five matches falling to #8 St. Cloud State 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-13) in an NSIC match played at Hallenbeck Hall.

SET ONE-
Minnesota Crookston started the first set will jumping out to a 6-4 lead after kills by Sabrina Leuer (R-Sr., Hamel) and Porsha Porath (Soph., Windom). St. Cloud State answered winning six of the next seven points to take a 10-7 lead. An ace served by Melissa Rodriguez (Sr., Sarchi Sur, Costa Rica) brought the Golden Eagles back within 13-12, but St. Cloud State won the next four points and pulled away for a 25-14 first set victory closing the set with a 7-point streak.

SET TWO-
Both teams traded points in the second set before St. Cloud State took three-straight points and a 10-7 lead. A kill from Porsha Porath followed by an SCSU attacking error cut the Golden Eagles’ deficit down to 12-10, but the Huskies won the next four points taking a 16-10 advantage. A service error and attacking error trimmed UMC’s deficit down to 17-14. St. Cloud State won five of the next six points to close out a second set win 25-18. 

SET THREE-
St. Cloud State jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the final set and never looked back. A service error brought Minnesota Crookston within 11-9, but a 5-point streak by the Huskies extended SCSU’s lead to 16-9. St. Cloud State closed the match with a 5-point run to win the third set 25-13. 

Minnesota Crookston falls to 4-20 overall and 2-14 in NSIC play. The Golden Eagles conclude their home schedule this weekend, beginning Friday night against Upper Iowa at 6:00 P.M. St. Cloud State improves to 20-4 overall and 12-4 in conference play.
