VILLA ST. VINCENT RECOGNIZES NATIONAL NURSES, SKILLED NURSING AND HOSPITAL WEEK

During the month of May, In recognition of National Nurses Week and National Skilled Nursing Care Week, Villa St. Vincent residents and caregivers will be the focus.

National Nurses Week is May 6-12. This year’s theme for the week is “Compassion/Expertise/Trust”. This special week always begins on May 6, and ends on May 12…because May 12 was Florence Nightingale’s birthday. She was a celebrated English social reformer and the founder of modern nursing.  Also notable is 2020 has been designated by the World Health Organization as the “Year of the Nurse” in recognition of the contributions they make and the risks associated with nursing shortages”.

“It is very fitting, especially at this time, to recognize the extraordinary efforts of nurses and caregivers everywhere for their service and sacrifice in keeping our communities healthy,” said Judy Hulst, Executive Director.

“We are so grateful for our nurses, nursing associates, and all of our employees for their commitment to protecting the safety, health, and wellness of our residents.  The care, compassion, and dedication shown daily is unprecedented, and we appreciate the tireless and selfless efforts of our entire staff,” added Hulst.

In celebration of National Skilled Nursing Care Week, May 10-16, with the theme of “Sharing our Wisdom”, Villa St. Vincent will plan to celebrate our residents and employees with special activities and events that are in compliance with social distancing regulations.  The intent is to showcase the insight, purpose, and wisdom to be learned from our elders.  Certain entertainment and programs had to be canceled/postponed due to the COVID-19 precautions.   “But, we will still celebrate our incredible residents and amazing staff the very best we can, given the situation,” stated Judy Hulst, Executive Director.

The observance of National Skilled Nursing Week by the American Health Care Association recognizes the role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s seniors.   Because of their life experiences, residents offer us a unique perspective: reminding us to be present in the moment, celebrate the small things in life and value connections.

In observation of National Hospital Week, May 10-16, Villa St. Vincent salutes local hospitals, clinics, and their staff for their contributions.  Hulst notes “We also thank our hospitals and clinics for their leadership and partnership as we work together to provide the highest quality care for older adults in our community.  We could not provide the care and service to our residents without the working relationship we have with the hospital and clinic staff we work with, day in and day out.”

With enhanced infection control protocols in place for residents and staff, Villa St. Vincent, a trusted provider of senior care for more than 65 years, continues to accept new residents for long-term skilled nursing care, short-term care and rehabilitation, memory care, respite care, and end-of-life care…along with assisted living services and housing in The SUMMIT.
