The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Basketball team was outscored 15-2 in the final seven minutes of the game as the Roseau Rams pulled away for a 72-44 victory in a Section 8AA matchup in Roseau.
FIRST HALF
Crookston had a great start to the game, and when the game was tied at two, they went on a 7-0 run behind a Carter Bruggeman drive for a layup, Jacob Miller hit a three-pointer, and Miller stole the ball and got a pass to Jack Garmen who stopped and popped a three-pointer for a 9-2 Pirate lead with 14:16 left in the half. The teams exchanged three-pointers before Roseau battled back to tie the game at 14. Crookston responded with another Garmen three-pointer almost halfway through the half for a 17-14 lead.
Roseau dominated the rest of the half as they outscored Crookston 21-6, and they took a 35-23 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
The second half had a quick start with Crookston going on a 5-2 run with four points from Jack Garmen and Jacob Miller added a free throw to bring Crookston within a 37-28 deficit one minute into the half. Roseau’s Jed Dunham answered with a basket before Garmen responded with a nice drive to the rim for a basket. The teams continued to go back-and-forth and Roseau led 44-33 with 13 minutes left in the half. Roseau went on a 7-0 run before Garmen buried another three-pointer for a 51-36 lead halfway through the half.
Crookston trailed 57-42 after a Tristan Luckow free throw with seven minutes left in the game. Crookston only scored two points in the final seven minutes and Roseau ended the game on a 15-2 run to cruise to a 72-44 victory.
Crookston drops to 1-10 on the year and will host one of the top teams in Section 8A, Fertile-Beltrami, on Tuesday. Roseau improves to 4-6 on the year.
