At approximately 9:11 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, the Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched to 1126 Hammerling Avenue for a report of a structure fire.
Fire crews arrived on the scene to find fire and smoke showing from the back of the home as well as the roof. Crews worked to extinguish the fire on the exterior and in the attic space. The structure sustained significant fire damage to the areas involved and is estimated at over $50,000. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and the occupants were displaced from their home due to the fire.
The Grand Forks Fire Department responded with five engines, one truck, and one command vehicle with seventeen personnel. One occupant suffered minor heat-related injuries and was assessed by medical personnel on the scene but not transferred to the hospital. The Fire Department was assisted by the Grand Forks Police Department, Altru Ambulance, and Xcel Energy.
