CROOKSTON BOY’S TENNIS COMES UP SHORT IN DUAL WITH MOORHEAD SPUDS

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Tennis team lost 6-1 to the Moorhead Spuds in a dual at the Crookston High School Tennis Courts.

Crookston’s lone victory came at fourth singles with Reggie Winjum winning 6-1, 6-1. “Reggie played real tough.  He is a consistent player and played well today,” said Pirate Coach Cody Brekken. “He frustrated his opponent and he stayed cool and collected throughout and got a nice win for us.”

The first doubles team of Mason Owens and Isaac Thomforde lost a hard-fought three-set match, with a tough 10-8 loss in the third set.  “It was a very good and competitive match and they competed all the way through,” said Coach Brekken. “It is good to see them gel and play better together.  They are getting better each time they play together and that is good to see.”

The third doubles team of Xander Kuchan and Kaleb Armstrong lost a hard-fought three-set match.  “Those two are gelling together and getting more consistent,” said Coach Brekken. “They are getting there and competing throughout.”

Crookston drops to 0-8 on the year in duals and will travel to Thief River Falls on Thursday for the Northwest Quad.  “We are seeing improvement and the guys are working hard,” said Coach Brekken. “We are happy with the progress we are making and how hard they are working so things are coming.”
