The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Men’s Basketball team dropped an NSIC game at home to the Augustana Vikings, 93-73.
FIRST HALF-
In the first half, Augustana scored the first seven points, but UMC responded with a 14-3 run to take a 14-10 lead. Reid Grant (Jr. Johnston, IA) got UMC’s first basket, Ben Hoverson (Jr. Grand Forks, ND) added a three, and Blaize Sagna (Jr. London, England) had a pair of two-pointers and a three during the run. UMC held their lead as Sagna hit a three and Aguek Deng (R-Jr. Des Moines, IA) knocked down a two. Hoverson and Grant added baskets again for the Golden Eagles to make it a 29-23 UMC lead. UMC’s lead jumped up to 34-25 after Grant buried a three, but Agustana chipped away at the Golden Eagles lead. The Vikings would reclaim the lead at 37-36 but later in the half, Peter Fuchs Jr. (R-Fr. Wausau, WI) hit two baskets to put UMC back up 43-41. The game would be tied 45-45 at the half.
SECOND HALF-
In the second half, Augustana would go on a 9-2 run to go up 54-47. UMC pulled within four, but the Vikings lead went up to 11 after a pair of threes. UMC trimmed the lead down to four as Sagna hit a pair of free throws, a three by Hoverson, and a Grant lay-up. The Vikings would get their lead back into double digits using a 22-2 run. UMC tried to battle back but the Vikings lead was too large as Augustana won 93-73.
UMC drops to 6-19 on the year and will take on Wayne State on KROX tomorrow. Augustana improves to 15-10 on the year and takes on MSU Moorhead tomorrow.
