Joan M. Ueland – OBIT

Joan M. Ueland, 50, Moorhead, MN, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, St. Valentine’s Day, comforted by her family and the staff at Sanford Hospice, Fargo, ND. We remember Joan’s warm and bright smile, and we hold a special place in our hearts for our beautiful and valiant Joan.

Joan was born on April 30, 1973 in Ada, MN, to Gene and Margaret (Sherack) Ueland and was named after her grandmothers, Joanetta “Nettie” (Eggen) Ueland (paternal) and Marie (Kruse) Sherack (maternal). Joan was kind, generous and intuitive; she loved to give more than to receive.

Joan loved her family, Joe, playing with kittens at the farm, her cats that she named “Gato,” getting her hair done, eating Mom’s potato dumplings, celebrating Christmas, listening to country music, going out to eat Mexican food, driving her car, reveling in a good belly laugh, and talking on the phone.

Joan was proud to graduate from Norman County West High School in 1992. Joan held several jobs over the years, but her favorite by far was working as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army at Christmas time.

Joan suffered a massive stroke on February 2nd at Sanford Medical Center. Joan is survived by her Mom and Dad, Margaret and Gene Ueland, Ada, MN; her six brothers and sisters, Michelle (Michael) Ueland (Roy), Washington, D.C., Glen Ueland, Plummer, MN, Gary (Stacy Nelson) Ueland, Moorhead, MN, Greg (Jennie Willcox) Ueland, Maquoketa, IA, Amy (John) Norbury, Lubbock, TX, and Robert (Kristin) Ueland, Midland, TX; her life-long partner, Joseph “Joe” Vasquez, Moorhead, MN; her beloved nieces and nephew, Cassandra Marie “Cassie” (Eleazar Pinto) Ueland, Miria Margaret Roy, and William and Lydia Norbury; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorial Mass: 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Halstad, MN.
Visitation: One hour before the memorial mass at the church.
Inurnment: Petri Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Ada, MN. (At a later date)
