CROOKSTON PARK BOARD GIVES UPDATES ON ECKLUND AND KARN PROJECTS

The Crookston Parks & Recreation held a Park Board Meeting Monday afternoon at City Hall.

The meeting started with the board discussing youth activities, policies, and procedures for the programs in the community. They went over their mission statement and spoke on the philosophy of youth sports activities. “It’s just more of a guideline and policy for park and rec to follow and to give parents a heads up on how we want to do things and run our program,” said Crookston Park & Rec. Direction Jake Solberg.

The board discussed the ongoing Ray Ecklund Complex/Jim Karn Field projects. The following things will be updated/worked on-

  • Additional storage is to be added underneath the grandstands of the stadiums.
  • Jim Karn Field will be receiving a new bathroom.
  • Ray Ecklund Complex will receive new scoreboards and fencing for baseball diamonds 5 and 6. And they will install new concrete by the seating for baseball diamond 1.

It was also mentioned that the High School Girls’ team may play at Diamond 1 next season.

There will be many updates on the two locations throughout the year. “So we are just kind of prepping and getting things ready for not only the summer but just to improve the overall look and things like that,” said Solberg. “It’s going to be great. The process right now is kind of funky, kind of looks dirty, but you got to make a mess to get a good project.”

The consent agenda included the approval of minutes from the board meeting on April 15. The Crookston Parks and Recreation Board will meet again on Monday, June 17, in the Crookston City Hall conference room.
