SACRED HEART SOFTBALL HOLDS ON TO BEAT NCE/UH

The Sacred Heart Eagle Softball team outscored the Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal Titans 12-8 in a Section 8A Softball tournament loser-out game played in Red Lake Falls.

FIRST INNING
The Titans Reagan Oberg singled with one out before the next two batters were retired.
Sacred Heart got on the board when Teegan Johnson reached on an error, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored on a stolen base for a 1-0 lead.

SECOND INNING
NCE/UH’s first three batters singled to load the bases before Sacred Heart’s Jillian Pulkrabek struck out the next two batters and got the next batter to ground out to get out of the jam.
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

THIRD INNING
The Titans scored two runs after a double, single, and triple to take a 2-1 lead.
Sacred Heart didn’t take long to respond as they added four runs in the bottom of the inning. Samara Zimprich started the bottom of the inning with a walk. Leah Sundby reached on an error, and after an out, Pulkrabek singled to score a run. A run scored on an error, and another run scored on a stolen base for a 4-2 lead. Lexi Lawrence walked and scored on an Avery Holthaus double for a 5-2 lead.

FOURTH INNING
The Titans responded with two runs on three hits to get within a 5-4 deficit.
Sacred Heart answered in the bottom of the inning when Sundby walked, Johnson singled, and Pulkrabek reached on a fielder’s choice. Sundby stole home before Mueller reached on an error and two runs scored on a Lawrence single for an 8-4 lead.

FIFTH INNING
The Titans were retried in 1-2-3 fashion.
Sacred Heart’s Holthaus led off the bottom of the inning with a single. After an out, Zimprich doubled to score a run. Sundby followed with an rbi double for a 10-4 lead. Johnson walked before Mueller singled and scored two runs for a 12-4 lead.

SIXTH INNING
The Titans scored four runs on six hits to get within a 12-8 deficit.
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

SEVENTH INNING
The Titans tried to mount a comeback as the rain came down harder and had two singles with two outs. The next batter was retired and Sacred Heart won the game 12-8.

Sacred Heart improves to 14-9 on the year and will play East Polk on Tuesday, May 28 at 4:00 PM in Red Lake Falls.
