John “Jack” James Juvrud – OBIT

John “Jack” James Juvrud, age 85, of Crookston, MN, passed away Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Benedictine Living Community in Crookston. He had been recovering from pneumonia.

Jack was born in Fosston, MN on November 14, 1938, the son of Oscar & Marion (Hill) Juvrud. He grew up with his sister Ardis and brother Donald in Rosebud Township, Polk County.

Jack graduated from Fosston High School in 1957 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and upon his honorable discharge, he began a career as a technician with the Polk County Highway Department in Crookston. Jack met the love of his life, Carole Seaton and they were united in marriage on August 26, 1967, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Crookston. Sadly, Carole passed away on September 30, 2022, and his beloved dog Kadee last fall.

Jack was artistic and enjoyed charcoal drawing, painting, and wood carving. He was most passionate about hunting white-tail deer in Northome, MN and on the farm, he grew up on, south of Fosston. He took pride in processing the meat with Carole, wrapping and cooking it, which she did better than anyone. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed seeing wildlife, camping, fishing, and cutting wood.

Playing “smear” was his favorite card game with family and friends. In earlier years, Jack loved to bowl with Carole in league at Corral Lanes in Crookston once scoring a 300 perfect game. During Minnesota’s winter, he loved to read especially Longarm & Louis Lamour western paperbacks and cheering on the Minnesota Vikings.

He will be very lovingly remembered and sadly missed.

Jack is survived by 3 daughters: Tana (Randy) Hultgren of Union Lake-Erskine, MN, Jaclynn Juvrud of Grand Forks, ND, and Kathy Schroeder of Crookston, MN; granddaughters Jesse Kanski-Porter and husband Ethan Kanski, Marion Juvrud, all of Grand Forks, ND; granddaughter-in-law, Jessie Hultgren of Tulalip, WA; 2 sisters-in-law, Marilyn Juvrud of Crookston and Nancie Goodyke of Whittmann, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Carole, his parents, Oscar & Marion (Hill) Juvrud; sister Ardis and brother-in-law, Bob Carlstrom; brother Donald Juvrud; parents-in-law, Oren & Edna (Butenhoff) Seaton; brothers-in-law, Arlynn Seaton & Loren (Butch) Seaton; beloved grandson, Chad Hultgren. May God richly bless the memory of John “Jack” James Juvrud.

A memorial service celebrating Jack’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Crookston with the Rev. Ruth Sanders officiating.
