Pirate Girl’s Soccer falls to the Hibbing Bluejackets

The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team, after trailing 2-0 early in the second half, put together a rally that just fell short as they fell to the Hibbing Bluejackets by a score of 2-1 at the new KROX Radio Stadium at Crookston High School.

FIRST HALF
Crookston looked to move the ball early, getting the ball towards the net and Hibbing goaltender Aella White, but after the first 5 minutes, Hibbing began to move the ball down the field with more efficiency. They got a corner kick in the 9th minute but could make nothing of it. Crookston got two corner kicks in the next 10 minutes but came up empty-handed on each of them. Hibbing, after lots of attempts that were saved by Skyuh Burnette, finally were able to break through, scoring in the 28th minute on a strike by Veyda Friend. Crookston was only able to get one shot on goal in the half, which was saved by White. The Bluejackets took the 1-0 lead into the half.

SECOND HALF –
The second half started in a disastrous fashion, with Allie Hagen getting a free kick just outside the box and hit the top right corner over Brunette in the 43rd minute to give the Bluejackets a 2-0 lead. Coach Sarah Reese was incredibly vocal during the game, and as the half went on, the Pirates began to play with more intensity and fire. They began to be more aggressive on the attack, and started accumulating corner kicks, 4 in the game compared to just 2 for Hibbing. Finally, a mistake by Hibbing gave JoJo Wallace a penalty kick, but she missed it high. A few minutes later, Crookston was finally able to cash in, scoring in the 63rd minute on a long-distance goal by Brooklyn Waldal, making it 2-1. The Pirates had a couple more chances, but were stifled by the Bluejacket defense, and could not find the equalizer, losing the match 2-1.

Crookston falls to 1-8 on the season, while Hibbing improves to 2-10.
