Arlen Rangvald Oanes – OBIT

Arlen R. Oanes, 81, rural Hillsboro, ND, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at the Halstad Living Center in Halstad, MN.

Arlen Rangvald Oanes was born on March 9, 1943 in Fargo, North Dakota, the son of Rangvald and Emma (Aamot) Oanes. He spent his childhood on the family farm in Herberg Township, North Dakota.
Arlen married Bonnie (Palm) on April 22, 1966, and together they made their home and raised their children on the family farm.
Arlen enjoyed serving with the Hillsboro National Guard from 1965 through 1969.
Passionate with cattle starting in high school, Arlen continued raising livestock throughout his life, he dedicated his life to farming, also growing potatoes, grain, soybeans, and sugar beets. In 1993 his son Darin joined him and together operated the family farm.
Throughout the years, Arlen served on various boards, including the Halstad elevator.
Arlen enjoyed flying his small airplane and giving family members an aerial view of his crops. He took great pride in watching his grandchildren, enjoying the farm as much as he did.

Arlen is survived by his wife, Bonnie of 58 years; children, Debbie (Todd) Callander. Big Lake, MN, Darin (Wendy) Oanes, Hillsboro, ND, and Denae (Kevin) Wiley, Grand Forks, ND. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, Mitchell Callander, Jake (Tori) Callander, Kate Oanes, Tom Oanes, Peter Oanes, Braylahn Wiley and Adley Wiley.

Arlen is preceded in death by his parents, Rangvald and Emma; and father and mother-in-law, Edwin and Juliet Palm.

Celebration of Life Service: 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.

Inurnment: Halstad South Cemetery, Halstad, MN. (At a later date)
