Red Lake County Rebels cruises to a win over Red Lake

The Red Lake County Rebels had a 14-0 lead after running only one offensive play and never looked back as they cruised to a 50-0 victory over the Red Lake Warriors in a Section 8A matchup played in a steady rain the entire game. The teams decided to play 10-minute quarters for the first three quarters and an eight-minute fourth quarter.

1st Quarter
The Red Lake Warriors started the game with the ball, but Red Lake County’s defense started strong, getting a tackle-for-loss from Olin Eskeli. After a two-yard loss on a run, Red Lake County’s Connor Duden made a tackle for another loss of four yards. Red Lake is forced to punt, and Red Lake County’s Ethan Johnson received the kick and evaded tacklers for a 47-yard return touchdown for the game’s first score. The resulting two-point conversion is good, and Red Lake County led 8-0.
On the kickoff, the Red Lake kick returner was hit hard by a Rebel defender, and he fumbled the kick on the 15-yard line, and Red Lake County recovered it. The Rebels only needed one play to score on a 15-yard pass from Connor Duden to Thoren Thronson,
and Red Lake County led 14-0.
Red Lake received the kick on the 15-yard line again, had another three-and-out, and was forced to punt the ball. The Rebels drive started at the 27-yard line, and again, they only needed one play, as Connor Duden kept the ball on a quarterback keeper and went into the endzone untouched. Alex Bramer received the pass in the corner of the endzone for the two-point conversion, making the score 22-0.

2nd Quarter
Red Lake’s offense continued to sputter against the stellar Red Lake County defense and was forced to punt again. The Warrior’s snap was bad, and the ball was fumbled, resulting in a turnover on downs. The Rebels received the ball on the 15-yard line to start. Mason Williams rushed for seven yards, and then, in the next play, Sam Rath rushed for eight yards and scored a touchdown, and after a failed two-point conversion, Red Lake County led 28-0. After another three-and-out by Red Lake, the Rebels took command of the ball on the 40-yard line. After two quick rushes, Gunnar Broden ripped off a 46-yard run for what seemed to be a touchdown, but a block-in-the-back call called it back 10 yards. On the very next play, the Rebels fumbled and failed to score on the drive. The Warriors had an incomplete pass, and the half ended with a score of 28-0 for Red Lake County.

3rd Quarter –
Red Lake County received the ball to start the second half. It only took the Rebels three plays to score again, with a 48-yard rushing touchdown from Theo Tydlacka. On the two-point conversion, Rath ran the ball in for the two-point conversion for a 36-0 lead.
Red Lake started the ensuing drive on its own 32-yard line. The first play resulted in a Marshall Gagner tackle for an eight-yard loss. A few plays later, the Warriors failed to gain a first down and turned the ball over on downs.
The Rebels got the ball back with 1:20 remaining in the quarter. Starting from the Warriors’ 28-yard line. Mason Williams ran the ball for 23 yards to set up a Kole Kleven five-yard touchdown run with six seconds remaining in the quarter. The two-point conversion was good from Marshall Gagner, and the score was 44-0 for Red Lake County to end the quarter.

4th Quarter –
Red Lake started the quarter with possession on its own 25-yard line. Jourdain attempted the first pass of the drive, turning and firing a quick slant pass to Demetrius Harris, but he was quickly tackled well behind the line of scrimmage by Kole Kleven for an eight-yard loss. Facing a fourth-and-long, the Warriors called a timeout to regroup. On the very next play, the Warriors fumbled for a turnover on downs.
The first play was a designed run to Marshall Gagner, but he was tackled behind the line by John Morris for an eight-yard loss. Red Lake County was not deterred, running the ball again, this time to Kole Kleven who broke a few tackles for a 24-yard touchdown to take a 50-0 lead with under two minutes left in the game.
With 1:10 left in the game, Red Lake took possession of the ball on the 37-yard line. The first play was a fumble, this time being recovered by the Rebels. Gunnar Broden took a knee with under 30 seconds left on the clock to end the game for a Red Lake County Rebels victory by a 50-0 score.
