For the second straight year, the University of Minnesota Crookston women’s golf team finished in second place at the Tracy Lane Memorial, hosted by Bemidji State University.
UMC who was in first place following day one after shooting 335 as a team, shot the same throughout the final 18 holes, but Concordia-St. Paul, improved upon their score by six strokes, winning the tournament by four strokes over the Golden Eagles. UMary, who finished in third, shot a 671, just one stroke behind the Golden Eagles. Southwest Minnesota State and Jamestown rounded out the top five, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Addi Wood of Concordia-St. Paul and Annie Neva of UMary each finished atop the leaderboard, tying for first.
UMC saw three different golfers finish in the top-10. Anaka Lysne (Sr., Wahpeton, N.D.), who finished in second at the Memorial Tournament a year ago as a junior, finished in sixth place as a senior, shooting a 165 through 36 holes. Emma Pierson (Fr., Cherry Valley, Ill.) was outstanding in her first career tournament, finishing in a tie for seventh, after shooting a career best 79 to open the tournament yesterday. Ainsley McLain (Jr., Grafton, N.D.) was outstanding on the day, moving up more than 10 spots, finishing in ninth place after shooting a 79 on the day.
Lauren Bowyer (Sr., Ivanhoe) finished in a tie for 15th but was in the top 10 at certain times throughout the two rounds. Lilly Mahlberg (Jr., Worthington) shot 191 through two rounds and finished in 40th place.
Following the great start to the tournament, the Golden Eagles will compete at the MSU/CSP Fall Brawl, hosted by Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul in Hudson, Wis., next Monday and Tuesday.
