The Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team lost to the #6-ranked Thief River Falls Prowlers 5-2 in a Section 8A match played in Crookston.
Thief River Falls dominated the singles matches with the outstanding Braylee Wienen leading the way at first singles as she beat Crookston’s Emma LaPlante 6-1, 6-1. Wienen just missed the top 10 Class A individual rankings. Another familiar Prowler name at second singles, Piper Greene beat Emelia Hoerner 6-0 in the first set before Hoerner picked up her play and lost the second set 6-4.
Thief River Falls’ Tegan Pray beat Crookston’s Lauren Tull at third singles. The first set was a dandy as Pray won 6-4 and she pulled away in the second set to win 6-0. The singles sweep was completed when Jaclyn Novak beat Crookston’s Grace Boll at fourth singles 6-2, 6-2.
Crookston dominated the first and second doubles matches. At first doubles, Ashlyn Bailey and Ava Martin teamed up to win their match in impressive fashion by a 6-1, 6-2 score. At second doubles, Chloe Boll and Logan Brekken won a hard-fought first set 6-4 and pulled away to win the second set 6-1.
Thief River Falls won the third doubles match with Kenzie Lee and Ava Niebuhr beating Crookston’s Lucy Smith and Madelyn Anderson 6-2, 6-3 and the Prowlers won the match 5-2 for a big Section 8A victory.
Crookston drops to 4-4 on the year and will travel to Perham on Thursday.
