The Sacred Heart Eagles stole the first set from the Red Lake Falls Eagles and did not look back from there, as they won 3 sets to none, by a score of 25-23, 25-17, 25-7 in East Grand Forks on Thursday night.
FIRST SET
RLF scored the first 3 points of the set, before Sacred Heart answered with three of their own. Both these teams would go back and forth from there until an Izzy Cwikla ace made it 7-5 Sacred Heart. RLF answered, capitalizing on errors to take a 9-8 lead. After Sacred Heart responded yet again to take a 12-11 lead, RLF played their best volleyball of the set, as they surged on a 9-2 run, getting kills from Rowan Kennett and Shandi Nelson, going up 20-13. Sacred Heart, however, shaped up, and responded with a 9-2 run of their own to tie the set at 22. Sacred Heart would then get the last laugh, as back-to-back Lydia Riskey kills ended the set at 25-23 Sacred Heart, stealing the first set from RLF.
SECOND SET
Sacred Heart gathered momentum from the first set’s conclusion, and took off with it. After RLF alternated points until it was 4-4, Sacred Heart surged ahead for a 12-0 run to take a 16-4 advantage. KIlls were recorded by Lexi Lawrence and Lydia Riskey, primarily. After the run concluded, RLF started to score a bit more, after they switched SHandi Nelson from setter to outside hitter, and she began tyo take control of the offense, allowing RLF to crawl back a little bit. However, the lead became insurmountable, and Sacred Heart took set 2 by a score of 25-17, going up 2 sets to none.
THIRD SET
In set 3, Sacred Heart took off at a level surpassing even the second set. Shandi Nelson started great for Red Lake Falls, recording three consecutive kills. However, after RLF tied the set at 4, Sacred Heart absolutely exploded forwards, going on a 15-0 run. Lexi Lawrence was the star of the show, getting 10 kills in the run alone, getting her total to 24 for the evening. The lead ballooned to 19-5 before the run ended, but RLF wasn’t able to mount any sort of comeback, and a Lydia Riskey kill put the icing on the cake, as Sacred Heart won the third set 25-7, giving them a 3 sets to none sweep.
Sacred Heart improves to 18-1 on the season. Red Lake Falls drops to 8-5 on the year,
