The Crookston Pirates boys‘ soccer team played a great defensive game, but they weren’t able to score and they played to a scoreless tie with the Mesabi East Giants in Aurora. The Mesabi East School District is made up of Aurora, Hoyt Lakes, Biwabik, and the surrounding areas of Lakeland, Embarrass, Palo, and Markham.
FIRST HALF –
Crookston had a decent start to the game and had a few scoring chances in the half. They were able to get three quality scoring chances, but couldn’t take advantage of the chances. Crookston’s defense was outstanding and played so well that Pirate Goalkeeper Reggie Winjum didn’t have to make a tough save the entire half. Neither team was able to score and it was 0-0 going into halftime.
SECOND HALF –
In the second half, it was more of the same. Crookston had three quality scoring chances, but the Mesabi East was able to make the save each time. Crookston’s defense continued its stellar play and didn’t give Meaabi East a chance to get a good shot on goal and it was a pretty wasy half for the Pirate keeper. Neither team was able to score and the teams played to a scoreless tie.
Crookston is now 1-6-2 on the year and will play Hibbing on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Mesabi East is 0-8-1 on the year.
