The Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team walked away from hosting the Crookston Triangular with two wins, as they took down Park Rapids 4-3 and Roseau 6-1 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Crookston High School.
CROOKSTON vs PARK RAPIDS
Crookston had a strong advantage in singles play, as they continued to shift lineups in the wake of Ashlyn Bailey’s season-ending injury. Emma LaPlante took charge of first singles, winning 6-3, 6-4 in her match, and Emilia Hoerner followed suit in second singles, taking her match 6-1, 6-2. The incredibly consistent Lauren Tull was the first one to finish her match, as she won 6-1, 6-0 in fourth singles. The only singlers player not to win for the Pirates in this match was Chloe Boll, who fell 6-3, 7-5 in her match.
Crookston only needed 1 win from any of their doubles pairings to take the match. It didn’t come from second singles, as Grace Boll and Madelyn Anderson stormed back down a set to force a tiebreak, only to lose in it by a score of 10-7. Third doubles didn’t fare much better, as Lucy Smith and Taylor Shultz lost in 2 sets, by a score of 7-5, 6-1. However, first doubles stepped up, as Ava Martin and Logan Brekken came back after dropping the first set to get a stellar 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 win, giving the Pirates a 4-3 match victory.

CROOKSTON vs ROSEAU
Crookston appeared to look a lot better against Roseau. Their singles teams continued to play well, as Emma LaPlante in first singles, Emelia Hoerner in second singles and Lauren Tull in third singles all won in 2 sets to to 2-0 on the afternoon. New to the rotation was Kaylen Bedard, a freshman playing in her second ever varsity match, and her first in singles. She won the first set, but Lizzy Desrosier came back to win by a score of 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.
That would be the only point that Roseau would get in this match, as all three doubles teams performed brilliantly to win for the Pirates. Logan Brekken and Chloe Boll stormed back down 5-3 in the second set to win in 2, Ava Martin and Grace Boll took control after a first set tiebreak to also win in 2, and Madelyn Anderson with Lucy Smith cruised to help the Pirates sweep in doubles, and win the match by a score of 6-1.
