Crookston Pirates Girls Soccer travels to Bemidji

The Crookston Pirates Girls’ soccer team was shutout by the Bemidji Lumberjacks 7-0 in a game played at Bemidji State’s Chet Anderson Stadium.

FIRST HALF –
Bemidji has 11 seniors on the squad and they are the top team in the conference and also a Class AAA team so the Pirates knew they had their hands full. Bemidji came out and scored in the first minute of the game when Clara Beiber scored for a 1-0 lead. Bemidji struck again 17 minutes later when Isabel Renn scored a goal for a 2-0 almost halfway through the first half.
There wasn’t any scoring until Bemidji added another goal 14 minutes later as Crookston was called for a hand ball in the box and Bemidji was awarded a penalty kick. Alivia Thompson scored on a penalty kick. Thompson added another goal two minutes later for a 4-0 lead, which they took into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
Crookston had a better start to the second half and defensively slowed down the Lumberjacks. You can only contain Bemidji so long as they scored the first goal of the second half 24 minutes into the half. They added another goal three minutes later, and added their seventh goal of the game three minutes after that. The Lumberjacks held on the rest of the game for a 7-0 victory. Crookston had several highlites according to Coach Sarah Reese. “Aubrey Bartrum had some great defensive runs , Madelyn Knutson had great communication and some huge kicks,” said Reese. “Kinsley Wangen controlled things in the center and gave her teammates time to retreat back. We played much better tonight than we did against Hibbing and we were more patient defensively. Bemidji is so good and such a technical team.:

Crookston drops to 1-11 on the year and will travelt o Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Thursday in the final game of the regular season. Bemidji improves to 10-4-1 on the year.
