#9 Red Lake County dominates in 56-0 victory over Crookston Pirate Football

The #8 Red Lake County Rebels dominated the game from the start and only allowed 49 total yards as they cruised to a 56-0 victory over the Crookston Pirate Football team at L.E. Drechsel Field in Red Lake Falls.

1st Quarter
Crookston started the game with the ball, and Tate Hamre completed an 18-yard pass down the middle to Jose Arriaga for a first down. Three plays later, the Pirates had to punt.
Red Lake County had the ball at its own 33-yard line for the team’s first offensive series. Ben Gullingsrud ran for five yards, and RLC got a free five yards after a Pirate offside penalty. Then Connor Duden fired a pass to Riley Broden, who found a seam and scampered for 56 yards before tripping up at the two-yard line. The Rebels’ Boe Nelson ran the ball into the endzone untouched for the game’s first score. The Kegan Schmitz extra-point kick was good for a 7-0 lead.

Crookston’s next drive started at its own 18-yard line, and Zachariah Ali ran for two yards, and Tate Hamre ran for seven yards. Ali ran for three more yards for a first down. Red Lake County sacked Ali for a loss of five yards before Hamre ran for five yards for a third down and 10 play. Crookston dropped back to pass on the next play, and Red Lake County’s Gunnar Broden intercepted the pass and returned it to the Pirate 28-yard line. Red Lake County’s Gullingsrud ran for two yards, and after an incomplete pass, Duden ran for 10 yards and a first down. Gullingsrud followed with a 12-yard gain to the three-yard line. Duden found Ethan Johnson for a three-yard pass for a touchdown. Duden passed to Theo Tydlacka for a two-point conversion for a 16-0 lead with 2:33 left in the quarter.
Crookston had a three-and-out and punted 39 yards, and Red Lake County had the ball at their own 46-yard line to end the quarter, leading 16-0.

2nd Quarter
Red Lake County started the quarter with a three-and-out and had to punt the ball. Crookston’s first offensive series of the quarter started at its own 26-yard line. The Pirates ran a play with
no gain, but got a first down after a 15-yard facemask penalty call. Crookston had to punt three plays later, and it was partially blocked. Red Lake County’s Oliver Melin caught the ball in the air and returned it down the sideline for a touchdown, and after the two-point conversion, the Rebels led 24-0.
Crookston fumbled the ball three plays later, and Red Lake County’s Ethan Johnson jumped a Crookston pass and intercepted it, sprinting down the sideline for a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown to give the Rebels a 30-0 lead.
Crookston fumbled the ball, and Red Lake County took advantage. Duden dumped a pass to Riley Broden, who ran 38 yards for a touchdown, giving Red Lake County a 36-0 lead.
Crookston started the next drive at their own 10-yard line, had a three-and-out, and was forced to punt from their own endzone. The punt was partially blocked and went out of bounds at the five-yard line.
Red Lake County ran two plays for no gain before Duden dumped a pass to Theo Tydlacka for a five-yard pass for a touchdown, and the Rebels took a 43-0 lead into halftime.

3rd Quarter –
The third quarter was only eight minutes, and Red Lake County sat the starters for the rest of the game. Red Lake County’s Nate Powers carried the ball for 25 yards to get the drive going. Powers had another run of 12 yards, and 15 yards were added on a facemask penalty for a 27-yard total gain. The Rebels punched one in when Gunnar Broden ran 12 yards for a touchdown for a 49-0 lead with six minutes left in the quarter.
Crookston had a three-and-out and had to punt. Red Lake County got the ball back, and Avery Knott ran for 37 yards and then 10 more yards. Dalton Wichterman ran for nine yards, and Mason Williams followed with a six-yard carry. After a penalty, Kobe Kleven ran for four yards before Gunnar Broden ran for a 12-yard touchdown for a 49-0 lead.

4th Quarter –
Crookston’s offense continued to struggle. They only had 10 yards of offense in the second half, another three-and-out, and a punt. Red Lake County followed up with a 13-play drive that took most of the 12-minute running time quarter. Red Lake County’s Wichterman ran for six yards and Williams followed with a seven yard run for.a first down. Wichterman added a 20-yard run, and a couple of plays later, Kleven darted for nine yards. Wichterman followed with an eight-yard run. A few plays later, Mason Williams scored on a 10-yard touchdown, and after the extra-point kick by Schmitz was good, the Rebels led 56-0 with less than two minutes remaining. The clock ran out and Red Lake County won the game 56-0.

Crookston drops to 1-5 on the year and will host Bagley on Friday, October 10, at KROX Radio Stadium. Red Lake County improves to 5-1 on the year and will have a big game with Park Christian on Friday, October 10.
