The Lake Park-Auduob Raiders used several runs, but a 6-0 run in the final minutes proved to be the difference as they beat the Crookston Pirate Girls basketball team 74-69 in a game played in Audubon.
FIRST HALF –
LPA started the game with a basket before Crookston’s Chloe Boll answered with back-to-back baskets for a 4-2 lead. LPA tied the game with a basket before Chloe Boll responded with four more points for an 8-4 lead a little over four minutes into the game. LPA’s offense picked up while Crookston’s offense struggled as the Raiders scored 11 straight points for a 15-8 lead. Crookston’s Madi Bruggeman stopped the Pirate drought with three points. LPA continued to build on its lead and took a 22-13 lead with seven minutes to go in the half. Crookston’s Grace Boll scored five points, and Halle Nicholas added a free throw to get the Pirates within a 24-19 deficit. LPA committed its seven fouls of the game, and Crookston was in the bonus for the final six minutes of the half. Crookston trailed 28-22 when they went on a 10-2 run with Brooklyn Waldal making a layup before Chloe Boll scored the next eight points to give the Pirates a 32-30 lead with 1:10 left in the half. LPA scored the next four points to take a 34-32 lead into halftime. Crookston’s Chloe Boll scored half of the team’s points with 16 points in the half.
SECOND HALF –
LPA started the second half with a pair of three-pointers to take a 40-32 lead before Chloe Boll and Bruggeman answered with a pair of baskets to get within a 40-36 deficit. LPA led 43-40 when they scored seven straight points for a 50-40 lead with 11:15 left in the game. Crookston answered with seven straight points, including five by Grace Boll and a three-pointer by Nicholas to get within a 50-47 deficit. The teams exchanged baskets for the next five minutes and LPA led 60-56 before Crookston’s Bruggeman had a three-point play and Chloe Boll grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to give the Pirates a 61-60 lead with 3:28 remaining. LPA answered with five points and led a minute later by a 64-62 scored two minutes left in the game. LPA added four points before Nicholas made a three-pointer to bring the Pirates within 68-65 deficit. LPA bounced back with six points to take a commanding 74-65 lead. Trailing 74-67, Chloe Boll scored four points, but ran out of tiem as LPA won the game 74-69.
Crookston drops to 0-3 on the year and will host Warroad on Friday. LPA improves to 2-0 on the year.
