Arthur (Art) Leroy Gredvig – OBIT

Arthur (Art) Leroy Gredvig, age 101, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN.

Art was born on April 6, 1924, to Gerhard and Clara (Morvig) Gredvig in Fertile, MN, the youngest of twelve children. He was baptized and confirmed in his Christian faith at Concordia Lutheran Church. Art graduated from Fertile High School in 1942.
He served in the United States Army from 1945–1946 as a Supply Sergeant and was part of the occupational forces in Japan. He earned a Parachutist’s Badge—an accomplishment he enjoyed recalling with the line, “I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, on purpose.” Following his military service, Art returned home, living and farming on the family farm for most of his life. In addition to farming, he worked as a school bus driver for 27 years.

Art married Gelaine Jenson on June 10, 1950, in Fertile, MN. Together they raised three children: Mary, Randi, and Daniel.

After retiring, Art found joy in gardening and woodworking. His detailed miniature recreations of the family farm buildings showcased both his craftsmanship and artistic eye. He was a devoted member of Concordia Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and the Concordia Lutheran Church Cemetery Board. In the community, he was active with the Polk County Fair Board, Fertile Lions Club, Agassiz Environmental Learning Center, Fertile 4-H Club, East Polk Farm Bureau, Ski Devil Ski Area, and the American Legion Post #238.

Art was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Gelaine; infant son, John Arthur; daughter, Mary (Moe); and five brothers and six sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Randi (Jim) Delaney of Pipestone, MN; son-in-law, Craig Moe of International Falls, MN; son, Daniel (Diane) Gredvig of Houston, TX; six grandchildren—Kelly, Kyle, Jimmy, David, Derek, and Erik; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Art will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
