Crookston High School’s Emma LaPlante signed a National Letter of Intent to play hockey and tennis at the University of Wisconsin-Superior next year. UW-Superior is an NCAA Division III school and is part of the WIAC and UMAC conferences.
Laplante is looking at majoring in business, possibly with a finance emphasis. She played volleyball and made the switch to tennis as a junior and was part of the state tournament team. She has been playing varsity hockey since her freshman year. Emma was named to the Section 8A Girls Hockey All-Section honorable mention team and received the Hypeman award as a junior. This season, Emma has scored 11 goals this season and leads the team with 10 assists. She also has two power-play goals.Â
Emma is also a member of the Leo Club, National Honor Society, Honor roll, and is a volunteer at Trinity Lutheran Church for the JAM and Spark programs.
Emma said that getting to play her two favorite sports in college was key. “Being able to play my two favorite sports was a big deal to me,” said LaPlante. “I went on campus and loved the campus. It felt nice, and it was my vibe, and I love hockey and tennis.”
LaPlante will be joining Addie Fee, who is on the UW-Superior Women’s Hockey and Tennis teams. “I definitely have the fees to thank for that, Addie and Katie,” said LaPlante. “They kind of helped me with this opportunity, and it all just worked out perfectly for me. I couldn’t be more excited.”
LapLante said officially signing feels good. “I’ve been looking forward to this day and this decision. It’s kind of been on my mind a lot, especially this summer, going into senior year,” said LaPlante. “Like, oh, I’m not committed yet. I’m not talking to anybody. But I realize everybody has their own path, and this was mine.”
