The Crookston Pirate Boys Hockey team scored nine goals and dominated the Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin Raiders in a 9-1 victory in a game played in Coleraine.
FIRST PERIOD
Crookston got the first shot on goal about 30 seconds into the game, but Greenway followed up with four shots in the next six minutes and was outshooting the Pirates 4-1. Crookston’s second shot of the game was a big one as Masen Reitmeier got the puck to Liam Larson, who scored just over seven minutes into the game to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, Liam Larson got another pass from Reitmeeier and scored for a 2-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Greyson Ecker scored a goal to give the Pirates three goals in less than three minutes for a 3-0 lead. The Pirates’ Garrett Fischer added a goal with five seconds left in the period to give Crookston a 4-0 lead going into the first intermission.
SECOND PERIOD
Crookston started the second period strong as they peppered the Greenway net with seven shots in the first nine minutes of the period, but didn’t have anything to show for it, until Garrett Fischer struck on the eighth shot of the period for a 5-0 lead. Greenway responded with a goal a little over 30 seconds later to get within a 5-1 deficit. Crookston answered less than a minute later with a Grant Funk goal for a 6-1 lead. Crookston added another late goal as they took advantage of a power play, and Gavin Aukhus scored with 30 seconds left for a 7-1 lead going into the second intermission.
THIRD PERIOD
Crookston had three shots in goal in the first three minutes of the period, but didn’t get another shot on goal for four more minutes when Lukas Helgeson worked the puck to Tate Hamre, who got the puck to Fischer, and he scored a goal for an 8-1 lead. Crookston was hoping one of the guys who hadn’t had a goal yet would get one late in the game. The wish became a reality as Rylan Hanson scored with 65 seconds left in the game to give the Pirates a 9-1 victory.
Crookston improves to 13-7-1 on the year and will take on International Falls on Saturday afternoon. Greenway drops to 10-10 on the year.
