Cheryl Marie Vraa, age 67, of Crookston, MN, lost her battle against pancreatic cancer on March 9, 2026 at HIA Heather’s House in Fargo, ND.
Cheri was born in Crookston, MN to LeRoy and Donna Koval on February 17, 1959. She attended school at Central High School in Crookston, and was married at the age of 18. In 1981, she became what she had always dreamt of being – a mother. She dedicated her life to raising 3 children, who were her whole world. She raised her children in Nielsville, MN, where you could often find her in the garden, attending to her beautiful flowers, and homegrown vegetables. She cherished moments spent playing games like Monopoly and Yahtzee, making cookies, and dancing to her oldie’s station in the kitchen, often grabbing a child (sometimes unwillingly) to do the twist with her, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Cheri loved spending the holidays with friends and family, always finding a way to make the holiday special, and making sure everyone left with a full belly. A true fighter, she overcame breast cancer in 2005, showing incredible strength and resilience throughout her life. Cheri’s warmth made her a shoulder to cry on and a loyal friend, daughter and sister. Her fierce protectiveness and love for her family knew no bounds.
She is survived by her children, Erin Tate of New Freedom, PA, Zeb Vraa (Amanda) of Rosemount, MN, and Bethany Vraa of Glen Rock, PA; her grandchildren, Lizzie and Cayleb Tate (Erin), and Ean, Maddie, and Logan Vraa (Zeb); her mother, Donna Koval; brother, Chuck Koval; as well as many nieces and nephews, grand cats and grand dogs.
Cheri was preceded in death by her father, LeRoy Koval; and her brother, Dale Koval.
Her legacy of love, compassion, and strength will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff at HIA Health for providing Cheri with excellent care, as well as kindness, patience, and understanding.
A Memorial Service will be held for Cheri on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral and Cremation Service, 615 S Minnesota St, Crookston, MN 56716, with a visitation one hour prior.
