March 15 marks the 107th Anniversary of the American Legion

March 15 marks the day in 1919 that the American Legion was established by an Act of Congress following World War I.  The American Legion is the nation’s largest veterans service organization, advocating for veterans, service members and military families.

Crookston’s American Legion, Nels T Wold Post 20 was one of the first posts established in Minnesota.  Today, even without a brick and mortar building, 108 paid members of the Post uphold the four pillars that the American Legion vowed to maintain when instated; Veterans Affairs and Rehab, National Security, Americanism and Children and Youth.  Crookston’s Post 20 maintains an honor guard for deceased military members’ funerals, participates in Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day on the Hill, Veteran’s Honor Flight Fundraisers and Veteran’s Day.  They sponsor community events, Scholarships, Girls State, Boys State, American Legion Baseball, and many American Legion Auxiliary activities.

They served their country and continue to serve their community and fellow veterans.  Please take time to thank them and wish them a Happy Birthday.
