The Crookston High School Knowledge Bowl team is competing in the State Knowledge Bowl competition at Craguns Resort near Brainerd, and after the first day, is sitting in third place.
The first round of the state competition is the written round, and Crookston scored 36 points, good for third place out of 15 teams. Ashby leads with 39 points, defending state champion Fosston is second with 38 points, followed by Crookston and Aitkin with 36 each.
The teams will compete in five oral rounds on Friday. Members of the Pirate team are Ben Capistran, Leah Johanneck, Ethan Lanctot, Xavier Mason, and Lily Olmstead. The team is coached by Katelyn Stegman.
