Crookston School Board to meet on Tuesday, April 28

The Crookston School Board will meet on Tuesday, April 28 at 5:00 p.m. in the Crookston High School Choir/Orchestra room.

The consent agenda includes the approval of the March 23 special meeting, March 23 regular meeting, March 26 special meeting, and April 9 special meeting minutes. The board will also be asked to approve the current bills and the following personnel items –
The retirement of Anita Brekken as head cook at Highland, Wanda Proulx as assistant cook at Highland, Mark Ecklund as kitchen helper at the high school. The board will be asked to approve the resignation of Theresa Brule-Haggerty as a kitchen helper at the high school, Malissa Burnette as a paraprofessional at Washington School, Donald Braam as a paraprofessional at Highland School, Davin Rose as a Chemistry teacher, Katelynn Nordine as a paraprofessional at the high school, and Manny Green as band instructor.
The board will be asked to approve a stats change for Malissa Burnette from paraprofessional to ADSIS Behavior Interventionist Instructional Assistant.
The board will be asked to approve employment agreements with Donovan Edlund as Transportation Assistant, Dave Emanuel as Indian Ed Coordinator, Lacia Hanson as Success Coach, Joseph Hyde as Information Technology Specialist, Richard Niemela as Transportation Services/Building and Grounds Director, Emily Scheresky as Food Services Director, and Keven Weber as Computer/Technology Technician.

The board will be asked to accept $13,633.22 in donations with $5,000 from Farm Credit Services for the greenhouse project, $2,587.45 from the Crookston Masonic Lodge and another $2,587.45 from the Minnesota Masonic Charities for the sixth grade field trip to Itasca State Park, $1,800 from the Crookston Baseball Association for the Pirate Softball program, $758.32 from the Crookston Baseball Association for the Pirate Baseball program, $500 from the Eldred Farmer’s Elevator for the FFA program, and $400 from Old National Bank for student scholarships.

There will be reports from the administration before the main agenda. The main agenda includes the approval of Bound as the new Activities platform, approval the update to the door access system with Garden Valley to replace Johnson Controls, a contract service agreement with Jill Carlson as a licensed school psychologist, the approval of the Music Listening team program, and the preschool/school readiness tuition plan for the 2026-2027 school year. The board will also be asked to approve the 2028  student Europe trip and the 2026-2027 District Academic Calendar.
The board will be asked to consider the non-renewal of Tier I and II teachers, with Bobbie Jo Hebert as an Early Childhood Education teacher, Emma Morlan, and Rachel Thompson as Special Education teachers. The board will also be asked to approve a resolution proposing the placement of Kiely Tate on unrequested leave of absence, and the non-renewal of Shelly Kapplhoff as an instructional assistant.

The next scheduled school board meeting will be Tuesday, May 26 at 5:00 p.m. at the Crookston High School choir/orchestra room.
