In preparation for the 2027 Downtown Street Project with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the City of Crookston Water Department is requesting assistance from downtown business owners located along Main Street, Broadway, and surrounding side streets.
As part of this project, the City is working to identify water service line material types for all downtown businesses. Any lead and/or galvanized service lines identified will likely need to be replaced. Completing this work while streets and sidewalks are already removed during construction will help reduce future costs to both the City and property owners and ensure compliant, safe drinking water.
Business owners are asked to email a photo of their water service line with their business name and address in the subject line. Information can be sent to serviceline@crookston.mn.us.
If you are unsure what to look for, please contact the City of Crookston. Staff can walk you through the process or schedule a site visit with a Water Department operator to assist in identifying the material.
To help speed up this process, City operators will also be visiting downtown businesses to request access for photographing and documenting service lines. Employees will be wearing high-visibility safety vests and carrying City of Crookston identification badges.
