Shirley Hanson, 86, of Beltrami, MN, peacefully left this earthly life to be with her Lord on May 21, 2026.

Shirley’s life was a beautiful testament to the power of love, family, and faith. Born to Ole and Julia Hoffe on September 25, 1939, she grew up in Fertile, MN, where she made lifelong friendships and graduated from high school in 1957. As a young woman, her adventurous spirit took her to the Twin Cities and later to Fargo, ND, working for Cargill and Bell Telephone. Wherever she went, Shirley was known for her warmth, and connection with people.
The true cornerstone of Shirley’s life began on March 21, 1959, when she was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Roger Hanson, at Concordia Lutheran Church. Together, they built a life rooted in faith and family. Their journey took them to Felton, MN, and later to Great Falls, MT, where they welcomed and raised their two children, Debbie and Dennis. In every home they lived in, Shirley nurtured an atmosphere of warmth, safety, and joy. Family was always her greatest priority, and she took immense delight in giving thoughtful gifts to those she loved. After 14 years in Montana, their hearts called them back to their roots in Beltrami, where they took over the cherished family farm. Those who visited the farm will fondly remember the quiet, comforting humming that always drifted from the kitchen while Shirley happily worked. Though Roger preceded her in death, the beautiful legacy they co-authored remains an anchor for their family.
Shirley’s deep relationship with the Lord was the guiding light of her life. She poured her heart into her church community atResurrection Free Lutheran Church, sharing her love for the word through Bible studies and uplifting those around her. She especially loved delving deep into Bible prophecy, living with a joyful and expectant heart that hoped for the Lord’s soon return. Shirley possessed a rare gift for connection, finding immense joy in simply visiting, sharing a laugh, and checking in on her neighbors. She was also an avid bargain hunter who thoroughly enjoyed scouring local rummage sales and thrift stores, always looking for unique treasures.
Her legacy of love lives on through her children, Debbie (Brent) Haugrud of Rothsay, MN, and Dennis (Dina) Hanson of Fertile; her six adored grandchildren, Ben (Jenna) Haugrud, Nathan (Amanda) Haugrud, Rachel (Greg) Schlangen, Austin (DeeAnna) Hanson, Seth (Rachelle) Hanson, and Noah Hanson; and her 14 precious great-grandchildren, who brought a special sparkle to her later years.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 2 PM with a visitation beginning at 12:30 PM at Resurrection Free Lutheran Church in Beltrami, MN.
