Crookston Pirate senior, Garrett Fischer, wrapped up his outstanding Pirate career with a two-round score of 166 at the State Class AA Boys Golf Tournament at the Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course, just outside of Jordan, on two hot and muggy days.
FIRST ROUND – Tuesday
Crookston Pirate Boys golfer Garrett Fischer teed off bright and early at 7:30 a.m. in the first round of the Class AA State Boys Golf Tournament and shot a nine-over-par 81, and is in 65th place out of 88 golfers. Garrett started on the 10th hole and got a bogey on the par-five 573-yard hole. He parred the next hole before a pair of bogies on the 12th and 13th holes. Garrett bounced back with a par before a double bogey and two bogies, and he was seven over through eight holes. Garrett finished the first nine (technically the back nine) with a par five on the 516-yard hole. Garrett settled in and had a birdie on the first hole when he got a four on the par-five 550-yard first hole. He followed with three pars before carding another birdie with a two on the par three 186-yard fifth hole. After a par on the sixth hole, Garrett ended the round with two bogies and a double bogey to finish with an 81.
FINAL ROUND – Wednesday
Garrett had a tough start to the final round of his Pirate career as his first drive went into the water, and after a couple of drops, he carded a 10 on the par-five 550-yard hole. He bogied the second hole and was six over after his first two holes. Garrett bounced back with four pars, and the final three holes were a bogey, par, and bogey to finish the front nine with a 44 (8 over). On the back nine, Garrett started with four bogies and a par before he carded a birdie on the par three 121-yard hole. His last three holes were a bogey, par, and bogey to wrap up his career with an 85 and a two-day total of 166.
Garret finished tied for 78th place. The state champion was Henry Johnson of Southwest Christian with a six-under par 138. The Blake School won the team state championship with a 585, three strokes better than Southwest Christian.
