Roger Frederick Love, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on July 9, 2026.
Roger was born November 27, 1940, to George “Ernie” and Inez Love. He graduated from Fisher High School in 1960 and married the love of his life, Eva Abeld, on July 2, 1960.
Roger’s love and passion was work. He began his career at American Crystal Sugar in East Grand Forks, MN. He turned to farming which became his lifelong passion. He always wanted to try something new including specialty crops like cranberry beans, black turtle beans, and hemp. Roger remained involved in farming until the day of his passing and took great pride in being known as one of the area’s oldest active farmers.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, Roger pursued many agricultural and business ventures throughout his life. He raised Hereford cattle, hogs, and sheep, owned and operated Roger Love Trucking, and Love Hemp Oil. He was always designing, building, or repairing buildings and machinery. If something needed to be fixed, Roger was determined to find a way.
Beyond his work, Roger found joy dancing with Eva, designing, building, and flying experimental airplanes, spending winters in Texas, and making his daily rounds to visit neighbors and friends. Those drives often ended in Crookston, where he looked forward to sharing meals and stories with his dinner group.
Roger was a member of the Eagles, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), the Red Lake Watershed Board, and Mendenhall Presbyterian Church.
Roger is lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Eva Love; his children, Caroline Tinkham, Marlys (Colin) Pester, and Dwight (Peggy) Love, his sister, Linda Bogert, ten grandchildren, and twenty great- grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents, George “Ernie” and Inez Love; his father and mother-in-law, Richard and Lucy Abeld, his son, Richard Love, and son-in-law, Dean Tinkham.
Roger will be remembered for his hard work ethic, inventive mind, and countless stories. Whether he was farming, building airplanes, repairing machinery, dancing with Eva, or sharing stories over a pop; he lived life to the fullest and with determination. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all those who knew and loved him.
