Fall into educational and entertaining programs at the Crookston Public Library this month. Along with celebrating Library Card Sign Up Month, which is held annually in September, the library will also host a number of events offering opportunities for enrichment, education, and entertainment.
Hobbyist Lonnie Peck will lead a live demonstration on the art of apple cider making on Tuesday, September 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Crookston Public Library. Along with cider-making and a demonstration of using an apple press, Lonnie will also provide attendees with many useful ideas for using up their apples, including a variety of things you can make with a cider base – even cleaning products!
Across the state, library supporters plan to gather at their local libraries to show their support during the weekend of September 18-20. The Crookston Public Library invites the community to stop by for a variety of activities, including a special Storytime with local celebrity guest readers on Friday, September 18 at 1:00 p.m., along with activities occurring throughout the weekend.
A grief support group meets regularly at the Crookston Public Library, in partnership with the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral & Cremation Service. The group meets on the third Monday of the month from 1:00-2:00 p.m. and offers a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere for connection and sharing with others.
Join the Crookston Public Library for a cozy visit with Minnesota cookbook author and blogger Sarah Peterson on Monday, September 21, at 6:30 p.m.. Sarah will discuss how family recipes connect across generations and talk about the recipes and stories in “Dish and Tell: Recipes from the Heart.” Attendees are invited to bring their own family recipe cards or recipe boxes so we can all “dish & tell” together! This program is offered free of charge thanks in part to funding from the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
The Reading by the Red Book Club will meet Tuesday, September 22, at 6:00 p.m. at the Crookston Public Library to discuss The Quiet Librarian by Minnesota author Allen Eskens. The book features a middle-aged Minnesota librarian whose best friend is murdered and her journey to solve the murder, which involved confronting her past as a teenager in war-torn Bosnia.
A monthly Writers Group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Crookston Public Library, offering an encouraging and supportive setting for writers of all levels to share their work, ideas and more.
