The Crookston Pirates boys’ soccer team couldn.t keep pace with the Grand Forks Central Knights on Thursday as they fell by a score of 9-0 at Cushman Field.
FIRST HALF –
The Knights got the game started off in the best way possible, scoring in the second minute on a goal from Lucas Weber, allowing them to go up 1-0 almost immediately. The Knights would then score again before the 10-minute mark to go up 2-0, and that pace would continue for most of the first half. Goals would be scored in the 13th, 22nd and 26th minute, and all of a sudden the Knights had a 5-0 lead. The Crookston defense would bear down from there, stopping many more shots from getting to Colton Osborn in net, but the offense couldn’t get anything going, so the 5-0 lead for GF Central would stand heading into the second half.
SECOND HALF –
The second half started out a lot slower than the first half, with neither team getting anything going for the first 20 minutes. Once reserves started coming into the game, the Knights picked up the offense again. Hamza Salad scored two goals within four minutes of each other to boost the lead to 7-0, and then after two more goals in the final ten minutes, the lead increased to 9-0. The Pirates got a couple shots on goal in the half, but couldn’t break through, and the Knights won by the score of 9-0.
Crookston drops to 1-2 on the season and will host East Grand Forks tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 PM. You can watch the game on KROX TV.
Grand Forks Central is now 2-4-1 on the season.
