The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team couldn’t muster a shot on goal against the #7 ranked East Grand Forks Green Wave, and that was a big piece to them losing 4-0 at KROX Radio Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
FIRST HALF –
East Grand Forks throughout the entirety of the half maintained constant possession of the ball, but their best success came early. In the seventh minute, Jorja Perkerewicz got a great pass and beat Kambree Wangen top shelf, and the Green Wave took an early 1-0 lead. EGF continued to get a plethora of opportunities, including a whopping seven corner kicks in the first 25 minutes of the half, but the Pirates continued their excellence against set pieces, allowing goals on none of them. The best opportunity for the Pirates came with just over ten minutes remaining, as Brooklyn Waldal got Crookston’s only clean look at the net in the half, but the ball sailed over the crossbar. For the rest of the half, the defense and goalkeeping stood firm, holding EGF to a 1-0 lead at halftime.
SECOND HALF –
In the second half, the story was the same, except the Green Wave had a few more bounces go their way. Though they had five more corner kicks without any goals, adding up to 12 for the game, they found ways to score in other areas. Geena Jordheim scored after a wild bounce in the blue turf to increase the lead to 2-0, and that led to EGF scoring three goals in 15 minutes, as Lauren Carpenter and Adilyn Nelson added tallies of their own to increase their lead to 4-0. The Pirates were unable to get a shot on goal in the half, equaling none for the game, and that allowed the Green Wave to hold on to a 4-0 victory.
Crookston drops to 0-7 on the season and will play against EGF again on Monday. The Green Wave are now 6-1.
