Beau Smith – Football

The KROX Athlete of the Week is Pirate Football’s Beau Smith, the Freshman running back/wide receiver/defensive back had a great game on Friday in a 13-6 victory over Cass Lake-Bena.
Beau had a game-high seven receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Through four games, he leads the district with 13 receptions and 223 yards. He is also tied for the district lead with two receiving touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, Smith is fourth in the district with 19 tackles. On special teams, Beau has five kick returns for a total of 58 yards.
Crookston Pirate Football Coach Jim McBride had this to say about Smith – “Beau is a great kid with a great attitude. He is a hard worker who is fun to be around. He has good speed and vision, and we expect big things. He’s only a freshman, but he has contributed a lot to our team. It will be fun to see him as he develops!”
Beau is a three-sport athlete. He was a member of the Pirate Boys Basketball team and played varsity and even started several games as an eighth grader and averaged around 7 points per game.
In the spring, he has played baseball but might switch to golf this year.
Smith also plays percussion in the band and is an honor roll student.
