Crookston High School to host the 66th Annual Fall Choral Festival – October 26

Three area high school choirs will join together to perform in the 66th Annual Fall Choral Festival at the Crookston High School Auditorium, which will be held on
Monday, October 26th at 7:00 p.m. Choirs from Bagley, East Grand Forks, and Crookston High School will perform selections individually and will join together as a festival choir to be conducted by guest conductor, Dr. Anne Gassmann, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Jamestown.

Dr. Anne Gassmann is a conductor, music educator, and soprano. As an Associate Professor of Music, she serves as the Director of Choral Music at the University of Jamestown. Her duties include conducting the Concert Choir, Vox Angelus, and Cantus, as well as teaching music education courses. Dr. Gassmann received her Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Nebraska—Lincoln. Prior to her doctoral work, Dr. Gassmann taught middle and high school in the upper Midwest.

As a North Dakota native, she was drawn to North Dakota State University to study choral conducting and voice with Drs. Jo Ann Miller and Virginia Sublett for her M.M. and B.M. Some of the recent accolades that Dr. Gassmann has received include two Light the Knight awards from the University of Jamestown Student Senate and Cantus being selected to perform at the North Dakota American Choral Director’s Association (ND ACDA) annual conference. As a strong advocate for lifelong singing, Dr. Gassmann continues to perform as both an ensemble member and soloist throughout the Midwest and New York.

The Fall Choral Festival began in 1959 as the project of three area choral directors: Garfield Reichert of Crookston, Don Danielson of East Grand Forks, and Bryant Ulseth of Thief River Falls. The festival aims to promote choral music and to give students a chance to hear and perform with students from other choirs, as well as to work with and learn from another teacher and director.

Admission for the concert will be $5 for adults and $2 for students and will be collected at the door. Doors will open at 6:30pm. Crookston High School Auditorium.
