Crookston High School will host a Parents, Athletes, and Coaches (PAC) meeting for the upcoming winter activities season on Thursday, October 29, at 6:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
The PAC meeting is an opportunity for student-athletes and parents/guardians to meet with Activities Director Evan Pederson and the winter coaches, get students registered through Bound, and review the district’s expectations for students before breaking off into team meetings. “There’ll be a little review of expectations, who’s who in the building to know, how to register on Bound, and then we’ll break into individualized team meetings. Some of those meetings are happening on site, and then because of coaches’ availability, there might be a different team meeting for some of our sports. But we’ll make that noted on Thursday night at the PAC meeting,”
In addition to winter sports like basketball, hockey, and wrestling, there are many other activities held during the winter, including figure skating, dance, and music “We want them out doing something, so register and get your kids involved. We encourage the kids to join boys and girls hockey, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls wrestling, dance. There’s skating club, and then there’s all sorts of activities like music, speech, and one act theater. So there’s a lot of different activities that we have going on in the winter months here.”
Before students can participate in any activities through Crookston High School, they must be registered on Bound, the district’s activity management software. Pederson has received mostly positive feedback on Bound, as many parents find the app user-friendly. With many school districts across Minnesota using this software, parents and students can stay informed about team information, including potential weather-related delays or rescheduled events. “It’s kind of user friendly. If there are any changes or adjustments, especially in the winter with the potential of storms and reschedules, please sign up on Bound. Make sure we’re doing the notify me, so if there is a change, you get notified, and that’s communicating between us and the school we’re playing. It’s a great app. It’s a great website. That’s where all our registration is. That’s where all of our schedules, all of our changes. If you had a student in the fall sports, it’s just a matter of adding the winter activity they’re in. If your child did not play a fall activity, there’s a registration process that you need to go through, and we’ll go over that at the PAC meeting.”
As the fall activity season winds down, Pederson thanks the coaches for the dedication and time they put into the student-athletes they coach and for giving them the opportunity to compete in events all throughout the year. “I just want to say thanks to our coaches. They put in hours of work that don’t really get recognized. They’re away from their families more than they probably like, but that’s the dedication that they’ve put on for the kids in our school. So once again, thanks to our coaches. They do a great job. We’re working on getting better, but they put in hard work, and we appreciate the hard work they put in.”
