UMC Active Eagles Club promotes movement and campus wellness

The ACTIVE Eagles student club at the University of Minnesota Crookston spent October encouraging students, faculty, and staff to make physical activity part of their daily routines during Exercise is Medicine On Campus (EIM-OC) Month.

In partnership with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the national Exercise is Medicine initiative promotes physical activity as an important part of overall health and well-being. ACTIVE Eagles brought that message to campus through several activities and events throughout the month.

One highlight was receiving a presidential proclamation from Chancellor Mary Holz-Clause, officially recognizing October as Exercise is Medicine On Campus Month at UMN Crookston. The proclamation highlighted the importance of movement and encouraged the campus community to incorporate physical activity into daily life.

ACTIVE Eagles also promoted movement around campus and participated in the national ACSM Mascot Challenge by creating a video featuring UMN Crookston’s mascot, Regal the Eagle. The challenge allows colleges and universities to promote physical activity and showcase their campus mascots.

The month wrapped up with a Halloween-themed pickleball tournament, bringing students together for some friendly competition. With costumes, snacks, and plenty of opportunities to get moving, the event offered a fun way to celebrate physical activity and campus community.

ACTIVE Eagles stands for Active, Community, Thrive, Vitality, and Exercise. The student club’s mission is to promote physical activity as a vital sign of health and encourage students, faculty, and staff to work together to improve the well-being of the campus community. Through campus activities and opportunities to get involved, the club hopes to help students build healthy habits that last a lifetime.

ACTIVE Eagles is a Campus Life Program at UMN Crookston and is advised by Anita Gust. To learn more about the club and its activities, visit ACTIVE Eagles.
