A Heat Advisory and Extreme Heat Watch have been issued for northwest Minnesota and southeast North Dakota beginning Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for portions of northwest and west central Minnesota and southeast North Dakota from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11. An Extreme Heat Watch has also been issued beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, and continuing through 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14.

Dangerously hot conditions with heat indexes as high as 101 degrees are possible on Saturday and could increase to 110 degrees for Sunday and Monday. Isolated heat impacts could start as early as Saturday afternoon, with widespread heat impacts expected Sunday and Monday afternoon.

Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Some precautions and preparedness measures include drinking plenty of fluids, staying out of the sun and, if possible, in an air-conditioned room, and checking in on relatives and neighbors.
