The Crookston Public Works Department has closed a section of N. Front Street from Grant Street to Sheridan Street for through traffic until further notice.
The public works department reports that the road closure is related to a recently completed sewer repair in that area. After the sewer work was completed, the excavation was filled and temporarily surfaced with Class 5 gravel while the material was allowed time to settle before the final blacktop repair.
The road was initially left open to traffic during this period. However, with the recent rain and continued settling, portions of the temporary surface have started to wash out and become soft and unstable.
As a precaution, Public Works decided to close that section of roadway until the contractor can return to repair and stabilize the area. We felt it was better to temporarily close the road rather than continue allowing traffic over a surface that may deteriorate further or create unsafe driving conditions.
Once the contractor has addressed the area and it is safe for traffic again, the roadway will be reopened.
