Ann G. (Mjolsness) Skaug – Obit

Ann (Mjolsness) Skaug, 97, Beltrami, MN, died peacefully with her children by her side on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN. Ann G. (Mjolsness) Skaug

Ann was born at Perley, MN on November 22, 1921 to Alma (Borgen) and Nels Mjolsness.  Ann was one of 9 children that later moved to Felton and all helped on their family farm.  She graduated from Felton Public School and earned her teaching certificate at Moorhead State College.  Her career began by teaching at area country schools and later taught third grade in Fertile, MN, until she and Marvin started their family. 

Marvin Skaug and Ann Mjolsness were united in marriage May 10, 1945. Marvin’s father died unexpectedly, so immediate responsibility of farming belonged to them.  They diligently worked together to provide for six children, volunteered in the community, school, and church.  She returned to teaching in 1973 and worked for 10 years at Fertile-Beltrami Public School elementary department assisting 5th and 6th grade students with math and reading. 

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for nearly 74 years and hosted many Bible studies, provided leadership for functions and events, and taught Sunday School.  Ann instilled to her children the importance of God’s abundant love through baptism, confirmation, and daily living.  She believed that everything is a gift from God and we need unconditional love.

Marvin hand carved over 200 items that Ann painted in great detail, which were gifted to others, and her passion for cooking and gardening have been admired by her family.  Her progressive and innovative personality was an inspiration.  She will be remembered also, for her ability to build relationships with others by her grace, integrity, respect, and the witty humor.  Ann and Marvin began their family in 1946.  Surviving children are: Kathleen (John) Swanson, Mentor, MN; Kathryn (Paul) Brue, Sioux Falls, SD; Marilyn (Joel) Burnstein, San Diego, CA; Carolyn (Todd) Christian, Fertile, MN; Michael (DeAnn) Skaug, Beltrami, MN; and Joan (Ross) Kroeker, Carmel, CA.  She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 4 siblings and spouses, 1 brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 10:30AM, Saturday, January 26 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Beltrami, MN.

Visitation: Friday, January 25, 2019 from 5:30-7:30PM, with a prayer service at 6:30, and one hour before the funeral on Saturday. 

Burial: Fair View Cemetery, rural Beltrami, MN.
