Arnold J. Orsland – Obit

Arnold J. Orsland, 70, Fargo, ND, formerly of Halstad, MN, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, with family by his side.Arnold J. Orsland

Arnie was born on November 16, 1950, in Ada, MN to Alfred (Toby) and Dorothy (Ueland) Orsland. He grew up in Shelly, MN where he attended grade school. He graduated from Climax High School in 1969. Arnie was drafted into the Army in 1969 and served in Vietnam. Between tours, Arnie’s first daughter Shannon was born in 1971. In 1973 a second daughter, Charity, was born. After returning from Vietnam he attended Northland Community College for auto body program and worked in Crookston, MN, and Warren, MN.

June 1, 1985 Arnie married Lori Hauge in Halstad, MN. Arnie and Lori had three daughters: Casie, Hailey, and Ashton. He worked for Halstad Municipal Utilities and also served on the Halstad Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years. After leaving Halstad Utilities he worked for Arneson Farms until a back injury forced him to retire in 2009.

Arnie enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially his annual trip to Canada. He enjoyed watching his girls play volleyball and basketball and rarely missed a game!

In 2017 Arnie entered Bethany Homes in Fargo, North Dakota where he resided until his death.

He was very proud of his grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. His walls were covered in pictures of his family.

Arnie is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lori; daughters, Shannon (Grant) Kaufman, Charity (Chad) Brault, Casie (John) Weeding, Hailey Orsland (Daniel Atwood) and Ashton Orsland; grandchildren, Leif, Alaric and Maeve Weeding, and Arlowe Atwood; brothers, Curtis (Lynda) Orsland, and Edward (Veronica) Drivdahl; sister, Marriane (Larry) Rognlie; sister-in-law; Natalie Nettum; brother-in-law, Wade (Nita) Hauge; mother-in-law, Darlene Hauge; uncle, Gene (Margaret) Ueland; aunt, Marion Hitner; and several nephews and nieces.

Arnie was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Brandon; infant daughter, Sarah; aunt, Doris Pederson; father-in-law, Loren Hauge; and Lori’s uncle, Burnett “Trapper” Hauge, whom he spent many years hunting, fishing, and getting into shenanigans with.

Arnie was very proud to have served his country. He was a true patriot.

Arnie’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all caregivers, and the entire staff of Bethany Homes on both 42nd and University in Fargo.

Memorial Service: 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: Two hours before the memorial service at the church.

Inurnment: Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND.
